I am a 22 years old postgraduate student. I got diagnosed with PCOS in 2016. That year I went to Delhi for my higher studies from a small town in Assam. Already it’s been difficult for me to adjust to that new place in many ways. Due to PCOS, I was also facing irregular periods, mood swings, and other health issues. It has been quite hard for me to accept the fact, although according to my doctor it was not a big deal.
These imbalances can lead to problems such as an increase in weight, various diseases and disorders, early menopause, and sometimes also ovarian cancer and breast cancer. It is natural but sometimes it may also be triggered by an unbalanced lifestyle and medical conditions. This is why maintaining hormonal balance is a very important aspect of women’s health.
Menopause can be described as the retirement of the female reproductive system, and it also brings the same level of relief that retirement brings. Periods are something that women deal with for the majority of their lives and quite painful for most. So when it’s time for menopause most women are happy. But what we don’t look forward to are the symptoms that come along with menopause. The most obvious and exasperating symptoms of menopause are hot flashes and insomnia, the two are mostly consequent.
PCOS causes increased levels of male hormones (androgens) in women. PCOS has negative impacts on fertility. This is because women with PCOS do not ovulate regularly or normally. Ovaries overproduce estrogen which in turn affects ovulation. The main difference between polycystic and normal ovaries is that even though the polycystic ovaries contain many small antral follicles with eggs in them, the follicles do not develop and mature properly, so there is irregular and sometimes no ovulation.
PCOS and Insulin Resistance share a strong bond. Insulin resistance is said to be the key feature for PCOS, obese and lean both. Elevated insulin levels may be a contributing factor to inflammation and other metabolic complications associated with PCOS. Insulin resistance is not the same for everyone. Some women dealing with insulin resistance might develop PCOS while some women don’t.
